The Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) expresses its serious concern over recently passed controversial Indian Citizenship (amendment) Bill 2019 by Indian Parliament (Lokshabha) which was proposed by ruling BJP govt. CPB President Mujahidul Islam Selim and General Secretary Md. Shah Alam in a statement to the press today said that it is an internal affair of India that whether it pass or reject any legislation for their own. It is also not wise to comment on any internal affairs of India or any other countries. The Communist Party of Bangladesh always respects this diplomatic norm. The recently passed controversial Citizenship Bill of India has seriously affected communal harmony of Bangladesh and all other neighboring countries of this region. Therefore, the CPB cannot remain silent on this issue. CPB leaders said that granting Indian citizenship only on the basis of religion and excluding Muslim community from it has clearly exposed that this legislation is extremely contaminated by communal hatred. By enacting this legislation there will be a starting of state sponsored communal divide in India. Therefore this will create more panic about increased violence on Muslim minority. CPB leaders said this offensive Act is ‘Hindutva version’ of rejected ‘two nation theory’ of Muslim League which was evolve in the womb of British colonialism. This Act will gradually transform India to ‘Hindu State’, that is contrary to spirit of secularism and upholding the diversity of ethnicity as described by Indian Constitution. Therefore, Left, democratic and progressive forces of India strongly protesting this controversial Act and building popular movement. CPB leaders said, if this Act is implemented there will be huge chances of communal violence and clashes in Bangladesh, India and many other countries across this region. Religious extremists and their master Imperialism will take the advantage of that situation and consequently the situation will be more dangerous. CPB calls upon Indian government to take necessary steps to stop this controversial Citizenship Bill. The CPB also demands Bangladesh government to express Bangladesh’s negative view formally to Indian government about that controversial Citizenship Bill.
