In a rally organized with a call to end evil regime, save democracy and build a left-democratic alternative out of the two-party politics, in front of the national press club, the president of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) has said, the evil regime backed by imperialism, is governing the country in an evil manner by dividing themselves in two parties. The two-party system based on Awamy League and BNP has strengthened the evil regimes in the country. In order to establish people’s right to vote and right to food, it is necessary to end this evil regime. He calls upon the countrymen to end the evil regime and join fight to build a substitute of the evil rule. The rally was presided over by CPB President Mujahidul Islam Selim and the General Secretary of CPB Comrade Shah Alam, secretary Ruhul Hossain Prince, Jolly Talukder, Central Committee Member Adv. Montu Ghosh and Dr. Sajedul Haque Rubel also spoke on the occasion. CPB Presidium member Abdullah Al Kafee Ratan conducted the rally. CPB Presidium members Comrade Lakshmi Chakroborty, Shahin Rahman, Aniruddha Das Anjan, Secretariat Member Ahsan Habib Lablu, Treasurer Mahbub Alam and the President of Dhaka Committee Mosleh Uddin were also present in the rally.
In his speech, Mujahidul Islam Selim said, the present Awamy League government has been in the power for almost 10 years. They came to power by promising to establish people’s right to vote and food properly. However, the right to vote and right to food of the people has been damaged seriously during their regime. They couldn’t materialize their promise of providing rice at Tk. 10 per Kg. In the name of so called development, the country is engulfed with endless looting and corruption by the people involved with the governing party. The democratic right of people is snatched. The people are crushed under the dictator-like regime and torturous activities like forced disappearance, killings, imprisonment etc. The number of killing, rape, torture on women has increased to an extreme level. The road safety has been in a miserable condition. Millions of young men are facing unemployment. The demand of garment workers’ for minimum wage has been overlooked in order to make the garment owners happy. The price of gas, water and electricity has been increased many times. People’s right to organize rally and processions has been taken under the government’s will. The just movements of the common people are being oppressed with the help of the administration and party cadres. The countrymen are going through an unbearable condition.
He said the government has passed the Digital Security Act 2018 with an aim to snatch the common people’s freedom of speech. With this act, the strong voice against looting and corruption by ruling party will be suppressed. The media will be kept under control by giving them threats of jail and confinement. This act will be used as a weapon to oppress the opposition. He appealed the President for not signing the Digital Security Act 2018.
He said the dictators had made election a farce. The governments that assumed power after 1990 couldn’t also establish free and impartial electoral system. The present government has gone one step ahead and made the election process a magical farce. He announced that, people will stop the government’s plan of making the upcoming 11th national election a unilateral election. In order to organize a free, fair, participatory and acceptable election, he demanded the government’s resignation before election. He also demanded for establishing a caretaker government keeping in mind the views of the political parties and people from other parts of the society. Apart from that, he demanded for dissolving the parliament before election, rearrangement of the election commission that has failed to earn the faith of people, start the practice of number-based electoral process and total reshuffling of the current election system that is full of money and power games.
CPB president Mujahidul Islam Selim also said, CPB is fighting hard to end the evil regime of Awamy League. The party is fighting in spite of immense pressure of the government. He urged for fulfilling the aim of establishing a third alliance, denying the present two-party system based on Awamy League and BNP. These two are the main duties of people at the moment. Keeping one duty aside, in order to complete the other duty first would be a huge mistake. We won’t be able to end this evil regime without establishing a third alliance and taking the alliance in to the power. He demanded to early release of renowned photographer Shahidul Alam, teacher of Chattagram Univerty Maidul Islam and leaders of left-democratic alliance in Stakhira Nityanando Sarker, Khogendro Nath Ghosh and Proshanto Roy. The General Secretary of CPB Comrade Shah Alam said the Communist Party is confronting every single step of the government taken against the people of the country. Apart from fighting for food right and employment, the party is also fighting for ensuring free, participatory and acceptable national election. The party members have shed their blood in this movement. He said CPB is getting ready to take part in the election and at the same time, it will boycott election if the government tries to organize another unilateral election like that of 05 Janury’2014. He ordered the CPB members to accumulate other leftist organizations in order to build a movement for ensuring free, participatory and acceptable national election. A red flag procession marched through Purana Paltan, Gulistan and Bongshal and ended in front of the CPB central office.
